The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) announced that it has reduced retail prices across its entire product range to pass on the full benefit of the GST rate cuts, effective from September 22.
The price cuts apply to popular items like butter, ghee, paneer, cheese, chocolates, ice cream, bakery goods, frozen snacks, condensed milk, peanut spread, and malt-based drinks.
Key Price Reductions for Consumers
Some of the main changes include:
Butter (100 gm pack): Price reduced from ₹62 to ₹58
Ghee (1 litre): Price cut by ₹40, from ₹650 to ₹610
Processed Cheese Block (1 kg): Reduced by ₹30, now at ₹545 per kg
Frozen Paneer (200 gm): Price lowered from ₹99 to ₹95
GCMMF added that many other product packs in categories such as UHT milk, frozen dairy products, and potato-based snacks will also get revised MRPs.
Encouraging Higher Dairy Use
According to Amul, the price cuts will not only save money for consumers but also encourage greater demand for items like butter, cheese, and ice cream, where India’s per capita consumption is still quite low.
“Lower prices will help boost dairy consumption and open new growth opportunities,” the cooperative said.
Impact on Farmers and Growth
GCMMF, owned by more than 36 lakh farmers, explained that higher consumer demand will improve turnover and strengthen the cooperative model.
By reducing MRPs, Amul aims to grow in both urban and semi-urban areas while increasing packaged dairy usage across the country.
Part of a Larger Industry Move
Amul’s move comes just after Mother Dairy also reduced prices of several products, including milk, butter, and paneer, from September 22.
With both leading dairy brands cutting rates, the combined effect is expected to ease consumer spending, especially as the festive season approaches.
