Amazon to End Prime Invite Program from October 1:New Family Sharing Rules

Amazon is making changes to its Prime membership. Starting October 1, you will no longer be able to invite people who live at a different address to share your free shipping benefits.

This means that one of Prime’s popular features—sharing shipping perks with friends or family at other addresses—will be discontinued.

Earlier, Amazon’s Prime Invite Program allowed Prime members to share free two-day delivery with someone who did not live at the same address.

But in an update posted in the customer service section of its website, Amazon announced that this feature is ending.

The company is now encouraging users outside the Prime member’s home to get their own membership.

New Plan Replacing Prime Invite

Amazon is replacing the Invite Program with a new service called Amazon Family.

This will let members enjoy free two-day delivery and other benefits such as exclusive deals and Prime Video access, which can be shared with up to four profiles.

In India, Prime membership is still offered at an affordable price of Rs 399 per year, making it accessible for individuals and families.

What Is the New Amazon Family Program?

As per a report by CNBC, under the new Amazon Family Program, Prime members will be able to share their benefits with:

  • 1 adult

  • 4 children

  • Up to 4 people added before April 7, 2025

However, all these people must live at the same primary address as the Prime account holder to be eligible for shared benefits.

What Was the Amazon Invite Program?

The previous Prime Invite Program allowed Prime members to share free two-day shipping with someone—even if they didn’t live at the same address.

This made it possible for friends or relatives living in different locations to enjoy fast delivery using a single Prime account.

It was especially useful for people who knew each other well but didn’t share the same home.

Now, with this feature being discontinued, only people living in the same household will be able to share Prime benefits going forward.
