Amazon to Deliver iPhones, AirPods, and Galaxy Smartphones via Drones

Amazon’s Prime Air service, which delivers orders within 60 minutes, has been operating for a few years now.

Recently, the company announced that it will expand its drone delivery capabilities to include a wider range of products, including iPhones, Apple products, and Galaxy smartphones.

These deliveries will be made using Amazon’s MK30 drones, which drop packages from a height of 13 feet.

FAA Approval for Expanded Drone Deliveries

Amazon confirmed in a blog post that it has received approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to expand its Prime Air drone delivery service.

With this approval, customers will now have access to 60,000 items eligible for delivery via drone.

New product categories for drone delivery include iPhones, Apple products, Galaxy smartphones, AirTags, AirPods, Ring doorbells, thermometers, and more.

Delivery Within an Hour

All drone deliveries will reach customers within an hour. During checkout, customers will have the option to select drone delivery, available through both the Amazon app and website.

However, the service will only be available in eligible areas, and the order must weigh up to 2 kilograms. Customers can choose their preferred delivery location, such as a driveway or yard.

How the Drones Work

Amazon’s drones are capable of calculating how long it will take to reach a delivery address and drop off the package.

After an order is placed, customers will receive an estimated delivery window. If a delivery cannot be completed, Amazon will notify the customer and provide the reason.

The company has identified “delivery zones,” areas free from obstructions like trees or buildings, where drones can safely operate. The new MK30 drone will handle all deliveries.
