If you frequently shop on Amazon, here’s an important update for you.
According to a report, Amazon has introduced a new processing fee of ₹49 for customers who use an instant bank discount (IBD) of ₹500 or more.
This additional charge will reduce the overall savings for shoppers.
The new policy came into effect yesterday, and it applies to both Prime and non-Prime customers. Even if an order is canceled or refunded, the ₹49 charge will not be refunded.
Amazon Follows Flipkart in Charging a Processing Fee
As per a report by TOI, Amazon has started charging this fee similar to Flipkart.
Amazon states that this charge helps cover the costs related to “collecting, managing, and processing bank discount offers” on their platform.
With this new rule, customers need to consider the extra ₹49 fee while calculating their savings.
For example, if you buy a product worth ₹5,000 and receive a ₹500 bank discount, your final amount will be ₹4,549 instead of ₹4,500.
No Exemptions for Prime Members & No Refund on Charges
This processing fee applies to all Amazon users, including Prime members. However, customers who use a bank discount of less than ₹500 will not have to pay this extra charge.
Amazon has also confirmed in its Help Center that this ₹49 charge will not be refunded under any circumstances, even if the order is canceled or returned.
This new change may impact customer shopping behavior, especially for those whose bank discount slightly exceeds ₹500.
Shoppers might now rethink their cart value or payment method to optimize their savings.
