Amazon India has introduced a new “Marketplace Fee” of ₹5 on every order. This means whenever you shop on Amazon, you will pay this extra charge. This decision has upset many customers, especially Amazon Prime members.
Why Is Amazon Charging This Fee?
Amazon says this fee helps maintain the seller platform and ensures a smooth shopping experience.
But many users see it as a hidden charge. Similar fees are already in place on other sites like Flipkart and Zepto.
Which Orders Will Have This Fee?
The ₹5 fee applies to all orders, whether you are a Prime member or not. Some categories like digital services and gift cards are exempt.
While Amazon had earlier reduced referral fees on items priced under ₹300, now they have added this marketplace fee.
Will You Get a Refund on the Fee if You Cancel?
Amazon clarified its refund rules. If you cancel an order completely before shipment, the full ₹5 fee will be refunded.
But if you cancel only part of an order, the refund on the fee will be partial. For example, if you cancel an item worth ₹200 in a ₹1000 order, only ₹1 of the fee is refunded.
If you return the order after delivery, the fee is not refunded. However, if you return goods at your doorstep, the marketplace fee will be refunded.
How Much Will This Fee Impact You?
₹5 might seem small, but if you order 20 times a month, that’s an extra ₹100. Over time, this small fee can add up and increase your shopping costs.
This is especially annoying for Prime members who pay for free delivery.
Prime Members Are Most Upset
Prime members, who subscribed expecting free delivery, are the most frustrated.
Many users took to social media to express their anger, questioning the value of Prime membership if they have to pay this fee on every order.
