Amazon is changing its Prime membership rules. From October 1, members will no longer be able to invite others for free shipping if they live at a different address.
This change ends the Prime Invite program, which earlier allowed users to share free shipping with people who didn’t live at the same address.
Let’s understand more about this change.
Amazon updated its customer service section to confirm that the sharing option will stop from October 1.
It now suggests that people who don’t live with the Prime member should get their own membership instead.
Amazon is asking users outside the main account holder’s home to subscribe on their own. In India, Prime membership is offered at a low cost of ₹399 per year.
The Prime Invite program is being replaced by Amazon Family.
This new feature allows free two-day delivery and other benefits like exclusive deals and movies, which can be shared with up to four profiles.
As per a report by CNBC, the new Amazon Family program lets Prime members share free shipping and other perks with one adult, four kids, and up to four people added before April 7, 2025.
However, all users must have the same main address to get these benefits.
What Was the Amazon Invite Program?
Earlier, Prime members could share free two-day shipping with another person, even if they lived at different addresses.
This meant two people using one Prime account could enjoy fast delivery at separate locations without paying extra.
It was helpful for people who knew each other but didn’t live together.
