Telecom company Airtel has taken an important step to protect its users. The company has introduced an AI-powered protection tool that can detect fraud in real time
and warn users immediately. This new security feature comes at a time when OTP scams are increasing rapidly.
Fraudsters often pretend to be delivery agents, customer support staff, bank officials, or company employees. They create urgency and pressure customers to share OTPs related to banking transactions.
Once the OTP is shared, money is withdrawn from the victim’s account. Airtel’s new system identifies such risks and sends instant fraud alerts to users.
How the AI Security System Works
To tackle this problem, Airtel has launched an AI-based security system that works proactively at the network level. This means the system detects suspicious activities directly on the network without requiring users to download any separate app.
If the system detects any suspicious OTP-related activity during a call, it sends an immediate warning message to the user. The alert may say something like, “This OTP could be a scam.” This helps users stay alert and avoid sharing OTPs.
Currently, this feature is live in Haryana, and Airtel plans to roll it out across India soon.
How OTP Fraud Happens
In OTP fraud, scammers call people and pretend to be bank officials, courier agents, or company representatives. They claim that KYC needs to be updated or a transaction is stuck. Then they ask for the OTP.
As soon as the victim shares the OTP, money is withdrawn from their bank account. Many people share OTPs due to fear or urgency and later realize they have been scammed.
Benefits for Airtel Users
Airtel’s new AI system will help prevent OTP fraud and make banking and online payments safer. Users will get security without installing any extra app, and AI will continuously monitor suspicious activities.
In India, digital fraud cases have increased sharply in recent years, especially OTP-related scams. Despite awareness campaigns by the government and companies, many people still fall victi
m to fraud. Airtel’s initiative is seen as a major step toward improving digital security.
