Airfare Too High? Now File a Complaint Directly via AirSewa

If you’ve noticed that air fares have suddenly increased much more than usual, you can now directly file a complaint with the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

If your complaint is valid, the government may ask the airline to lower the fare. To deal with this issue quickly, a new fare monitoring cell has been created within the ‘Air Sewa’ platform.

Now You Can File Fare Complaints via Air Sewa

Passengers can now report fare-related complaints through the Air Sewa app or website.

These complaints will be treated separately from other types of grievances. While filing a complaint, passengers will need to share details like booking time and travel distance.

If it is found that the fare was raised unfairly, the airline could be issued a show-cause notice and may be instructed to reduce the fare.

What is Air Sewa?

The Air Sewa app is an online platform launched by the Government of India under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

It is designed to improve the travel experience for airline passengers. The platform offers various services and features that users can access from home.

Available on both Android and iOS, it also allows passengers to share feedback, complaints, and discuss aviation-related issues.

It helps build a travel community where users can benefit from each other’s experiences.

Who Monitors Air Fares in India?

It’s important to note that the Central Government does not directly regulate airfares in India.

However, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has a Tariff Monitoring Unit that keeps an eye on fares across 60 air routes, divided into four booking categories:

  1. Tickets bought 31 days before departure

  2. Tickets bought 14 days before

  3. Tickets bought 7 days before

  4. Last-minute or Tatkal bookings

This new step by the government ensures quicker action on unjustified air fare hikes, giving passengers a stronger voice and more transparency in air travel pricing.
