A serious incident was narrowly avoided after an Air India flight from Delhi to Indore was forced to return shortly after takeoff due to a fire warning in the right engine.
Thanks to the quick response of the flight crew, a major tragedy was averted. The aircraft, Flight AI2913, landed safely, and all passengers were shifted to another aircraft to continue their journey.
An airline spokesperson said that the aviation regulator has been informed of the incident. “We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers.
At Air India, the safety of passengers and crew is our top priority,” the spokesperson added.
Details of the Delhi–Indore Flight
In a statement, Air India confirmed that the plane was taken out of service for inspection.
“Flight AI2913, operating from Delhi to Indore on August 31, returned to Delhi soon after takeoff as the cockpit crew received a fire alert for the right engine.
Following standard safety procedures, the pilots shut down the engine and returned to Delhi, where the plane landed safely.
The aircraft has been grounded for checks, and passengers were moved to another aircraft to complete the flight to Indore shortly,” the airline said.
Earlier Incident: Jaipur–Mumbai Flight
In another case from July, an Air India flight from Jaipur to Mumbai had to return soon after takeoff due to a suspected technical issue.
The flight, which took off from Jaipur at 2:01 p.m., was supposed to land in Mumbai at 3:35 p.m., but came back after just 18 minutes in the air.
“Flight AI612 operating from Jaipur to Mumbai on July 25 returned to Jaipur shortly after takeoff due to a suspected technical problem.
Troubleshooting checks later confirmed it was a false alert,” the airline spokesperson explained.
Hong Kong–Delhi Flight Fire Incident
Also in July, another Air India flight had an issue involving fire. Flight AI315, which was flying from Hong Kong to Delhi on July 22, 2025, experienced a fire in the auxiliary power unit (APU) shortly after it had landed and parked at the Delhi airport.
“The fire happened while passengers were beginning to disembark. The APU automatically shut down as designed,” the airline said in a statement.
The aircraft has been grounded for investigation, and the aviation regulator has been officially informed. The airline also confirmed that some damage was caused to the aircraft.
