If you’ve ever had to visit an Aadhaar center to update your name, address, or date of birth, there’s good news ahead.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is planning to allow Aadhaar holders to update their demographic details online from home.
This means changes like name, address, date of birth, and mobile number will soon be possible through an online process.
Best of all, the update will require just an OTP sent to your registered mobile number—no physical visit needed.
New Facility May Start by November 2025
According to a report by CNBC Awaaz, UIDAI is expected to roll out this feature by November 2025.
Users will receive an OTP on their registered mobile number, which they can use to verify themselves.
Then, they will be able to upload supporting documents like a passport, driving license, or birth certificate to complete the update.
With this change, there will no longer be a need to stand in long queues at Aadhaar centers just to make small updates.
Biometric Updates Will Still Be Offline
However, if you need to update biometric details—such as fingerprints or iris scans—you will still need to visit an Aadhaar enrollment center.
This rule is in place for security reasons, to ensure your identity cannot be misused.
UIDAI to Launch a New Aadhaar App
The report also mentions that UIDAI is working on a new and improved mobile app that will make the entire update process easier.
This app will support all Aadhaar-related updates digitally, and it will also reduce the need for physical documents.
This digital facility will be especially helpful for people in remote areas, the elderly, and those with limited mobility. It also supports India’s goal of better governance under the Digital India initiative.
Free Aadhaar Updates Extended Till June 2026
There’s another benefit for Aadhaar users: UIDAI has extended the deadline for free document updates until 14 June 2026.
You can now update your Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) for free by visiting the myAadhaar portal.
This move is aimed at ensuring accurate and up-to-date Aadhaar data. It will especially help people whose name or address has changed due to marriage, job transfers, or other reasons.
