In India, Aadhaar has become the primary ID for citizens, used everywhere from opening a bank account to buying a mobile SIM.
Now, Aadhaar has also been made mandatory for getting satellite internet services.
Reports suggest that Elon Musk’s company Starlink has adopted Aadhaar for customer identity verification in India.
This means anyone who wants a Starlink internet connection will need to provide their Aadhaar card.
Starlink aims to provide high-speed internet across the country, especially in villages and tier-3 cities, where connectivity is still a big challenge.
Why Aadhaar Verification?
The main reason behind Aadhaar-based verification is transparency and security. Aadhaar serves as a unique ID in India, reducing the chances of fake orders or fake customers.
For the government, this ensures that internet services are used only by verified users, improving data security.
For Starlink, Aadhaar verification will simplify customer management and help prevent fraud.
Starlink Plans and Possible Pricing in India
Although Starlink has not officially launched in India yet, reports based on global pricing give an idea of its plans.
Currently, the basic plan in the US and other countries costs around $99 (about ₹8,000 per month).
However, to compete with Jio, Airtel, and BSNL, Starlink may bring its prices down in India.
It is expected that monthly plans could range between ₹1,500 and ₹2,500, making it more affordable for Indian users.
