Updating your Aadhaar card has become simpler, thanks to UIDAI’s new rules.
Whether you want to change your name, address, or date of birth, you now have clear options for documents, and the process is more convenient than ever.
Documents Required for Name Change
If you need to change your name on Aadhaar, several documents are accepted:
Passport – the most reliable, as it includes your photo, name, date of birth, and address.
PAN card – works as a proof of identity.
Voter ID card – shows your photo and name.
Other documents – driver’s license, government ID cards, or a marriage certificate are also valid.
Documents Required to Update Address
To update your address, you can use:
Official documents – passport, bank passbook, or bank statement (must be updated).
Utility bills – electricity, water, or gas bills not older than three months.
Rental documents – police verification or notarization along with the rent agreement.
Other proofs – new voter ID, ration card, or house/property tax receipts.
Documents Required for Date of Birth Update
To correct your date of birth, you can submit:
Birth certificate – the most important document.
Passport – acceptable with clear DOB.
School records – 10th or 12th-grade mark sheets.
Other IDs – government-issued cards or PAN cards showing your DOB.
What’s New: Easier Updates
Under UIDAI’s new rules, if a single document shows your photo, name, and address, it can now serve as both proof of identity (PoI) and proof of address (PoA).
This means fewer documents and a faster process.
Important Things to Remember
Always submit genuine documents. Altered or fake documents may lead to rejection.
There are limits on changes: names can be updated twice, while date of birth and gender can be updated only once.
By keeping these tips in mind, updating your Aadhaar card can be quick, smooth, and hassle-free.
