Aadhaar Card Rules Changing from Oct 1 (New Fees, Mandatory Updates)

If you want to make changes to your Aadhaar card, you should do it by September 30, 2025, because from October 1, 2025, the fees for updates will increase.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced new rules related to Aadhaar, which will affect update charges, mandatory updates, and details shown on the card.

New Fees and Rules for Aadhaar Update

From October 1, 2025, the fee for general corrections (like name or address) will be ₹75.

For biometric updates (fingerprints, iris, or photo), the charge will be ₹125.

Children (7–17 years) updating biometrics will also pay ₹125.

Applying for a new Aadhaar card remains free.

UIDAI CEO Bhuvneshwar Kumar said that updating Aadhaar cards older than 10 years will be mandatory from October 1, 2025.

People who haven’t updated in the last decade will need to submit documents and pay the new fee, which may affect many in rural and small-town areas.

Biometric Updates for Children and Adolescents

Ages 5–7 and 15–17 must do mandatory biometric updates.

Earlier, the fee was ₹50, but now it has been waived, so these updates will be free.

If updates are not done, the Aadhaar card may become invalid for these age groups.

Husband/Father’s Name Removed

Since August 15, 2025, the father’s or husband’s name will no longer be printed on Aadhaar cards for people aged 18 and above. This detail will stay in UIDAI’s records only. The move will:

Reduce the need for frequent name changes.

Improve privacy protection, especially for women.

Changes to Date of Birth and C/o Column

Aadhaar cards will now show only the year of birth (e.g., 1990). The full date (e.g., 01/01/1990) will remain in UIDAI’s records.

The ‘Care of (C/o)’ column has been removed.

The card will now display only name, year of birth, and address.

Documents and Digital Process for Updates

From January 2025, only bank statements or utility bills (electricity, water, gas) will be accepted for address changes.

For other corrections (like name or date of birth), only PAN card, voter ID, or birth certificate will be valid.

From October 1, 2025, the update process will go fully digital. You can apply via the UIDAI website (uidai.gov.in) or the mAadhaar app.

Documents will be verified at the nearest Aadhaar center, and the update will be completed online.
