Google may soon make it easier for users to carry their Aadhaar card digitally.

According to reports, the company is working on an update that will allow Aadhaar cards to be stored in Google Wallet.

If this feature is rolled out, users will no longer need to carry a physical Aadhaar card with them.

Here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming update.

Aadhaar Card Support Coming to Google Wallet

Google Wallet was relaunched in India in 2024 with support for storing credit cards, transit cards, and some ID documents.

However, Aadhaar card support was missing until now.

As per a report by Android Authority, references to Aadhaar have been found in the app’s code.

Aadhaar card-related mentions appear at multiple places, indicating that Google may soon enable this feature officially.

Once available, users will be able to store their Aadhaar card directly inside Google Wallet.

Other Apps Already Offer This Feature

Google Wallet will not be the first app to support digital Aadhaar storage.

Samsung Pay already allows users to store Aadhaar, driving licence, and other documents with the help of DigiLocker.

DigiLocker itself, which is a government-backed app, also lets users keep important documents digitally.

Recently, UIDAI launched its own Aadhaar app that provides access to a digital version of the Aadhaar card on smartphones.

How This Update Will Benefit Users

Even though similar apps already exist, the addition of Aadhaar to Google Wallet could be a major convenience.

Many people already use Google Wallet for payments, so they won’t need to install a separate app just to store documents.

This would turn Google Wallet into an all-in-one app for payments and digital documents, making daily use simpler and more efficient.

Google Wallet’s Interface May Also Change

Along with Aadhaar support, Google is reportedly testing changes to the Google Wallet user interface.

A new split-style Floating Action Button (FAB) is being tested.

Currently, users see one button that says “Add to Wallet.” In the new design, there may be two buttons.

One will continue to add documents, while the other may offer a “View More” option.

This second button could later support search or additional features.

If Google officially rolls out Aadhaar support, it could make Google Wallet an even more essential app for Indian users, combining payments and important documents in one place.
