Toyota Mini Fortuner is reportedly being developed for India as a new mid-size SUV positioned below the Fortuner.
The upcoming model is expected to offer Toyota’s rugged SUV appeal at a lower price point.
Toyota has not officially confirmed the SUV’s launch date, final price or specifications.
Current reports suggest that it could arrive in India around late 2027 or early 2028.
Toyota Mini Fortuner Could Start Below Fortuner
The upcoming SUV is expected to sit between Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Hyryder and the full-size Fortuner in the company’s India line-up.
Price estimates currently vary.
Some reports suggest an ex-showroom price of around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 27 lakh, while another estimate puts its on-road Mumbai price at around Rs 30 lakh to Rs 45 lakh.
This means the Rs 30 lakh figure should not be treated as Toyota’s confirmed starting price.
Toyota Mini Fortuner May Get Rugged SUV Design
The new SUV is expected to feature styling inspired by Toyota’s larger SUVs, including the Fortuner.
However, its smaller dimensions could make it more suitable for city driving.
The model is expected to target the mid-size SUV segment and could compete with popular rivals such as the Mahindra Scorpio-N.
Toyota could use the new model to attract buyers who want a rugged SUV but find the current Fortuner too expensive.
Petrol, Diesel or Hybrid?
Several engine possibilities have emerged in reports about the upcoming SUV, but Toyota has not confirmed the final powertrain options.
Earlier reports have mentioned a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 2.4-litre diesel engine. Other reports have also suggested petrol and strong-hybrid options.
The final engine and transmission combination will only become clear once Toyota officially reveals the India-spec model.

The Toyota Mini Fortuner is still an upcoming model, and the company has not officially announced its launch timeline.
Current estimates point towards late 2027 or early 2028, meaning buyers will have to wait for Toyota to reveal the production version, pricing and specifications.
If launched as expected, the smaller SUV could give Toyota a stronger presence in the highly competitive mid-size SUV market while creating a more affordable alternative to the Fortuner.
