Train Ticket Booking 365 Days Ahead is available to foreign tourists and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) under Indian Railways’ special Foreign Tourist Quota.

While most passengers can reserve train tickets up to 60 days before their journey, eligible international travellers can plan their trips to India much earlier, subject to railway rules and availability.

The facility was introduced in 2017 to help foreign visitors and NRIs organise their travel well in advance. It remains separate from the regular advance reservation system used by most domestic passengers.

The extended booking window does not apply to every traveller, and passengers must meet specific identification and registration requirements to use it.

The classes available under this quota are also subject to the applicable booking rules.

Who Can Book Train Tickets 365 Days Ahead?

The special facility is intended for foreign tourists and NRIs who want to reserve railway tickets for travel within India up to one year in advance.

Ordinary domestic passengers cannot use this extended booking window simply by registering on the IRCTC website.

Indian Railways introduced the arrangement to make travel planning easier for international visitors, who may need to finalise itineraries, accommodation and connecting journeys months before arriving in India.

Under the general reservation rules, most regular train tickets can be booked up to 60 days before the journey, excluding the date of travel.

The 365-day facility for foreign tourists and NRIs continues as a separate provision.

However, booking a ticket a year in advance does not necessarily mean that a confirmed berth will be allocated immediately.

For journeys booked beyond the regular advance reservation period, berth or seat allocation follows the applicable railway reservation process.

Train Ticket Booking 365 Days Ahead: Eligibility Rules

Passengers wishing to use the Foreign Tourist Quota must have a valid passport and provide the required passenger details during the booking process.

International users must also register on IRCTC and verify their international mobile number through an OTP.

The passport details supplied during booking should be accurate, as the passenger may need to present the relevant travel documents during the journey.

Travellers should check the latest IRCTC instructions before making a reservation to ensure that their account and documents meet the requirements.

The extended booking window is subject to the classes and trains covered by the Foreign Tourist Quota.

The current IRCTC guidance lists several classes, including First AC, Second AC, Third AC, Executive Class, AC Chair Car, Sleeper and Second Sitting. Availability depends on the applicable quota and train.

Passengers should not assume that every class or berth will be available for every journey.

The number of seats allocated to the quota can be limited, and reservations remain subject to availability and railway rules.

How to Book Tickets Under the Foreign Tourist Quota

Eligible foreign tourists and NRIs can begin by registering or logging in to the IRCTC e-ticketing website.

They should ensure that their international mobile number has been entered and verified before proceeding with the booking.

After logging in, passengers can select the Foreign Tourist Ticket Booking option under the services section.

They must enter the required journey details and valid passport information for each passenger included in the reservation.

International debit or credit cards are among the payment methods specified in IRCTC’s guidance for international users.

Once payment and booking are completed successfully, the booking confirmation is communicated through the registered contact details.

Travellers making reservations far beyond the normal booking period should pay attention to the distinction between booking acceptance and berth allocation.

For tickets booked beyond the current advance reservation period, the railway system allocates berths later, when reservations open for the relevant journey.

Passengers should also review the fare, additional charges and cancellation conditions applicable to the Foreign Tourist Quota before paying.

These terms may differ from those that apply to ordinary reservations.

What Regular Indian Railway Passengers Should Know

For most domestic passengers, the advance reservation period for regular train bookings is 60 days, excluding the date of journey.

Indian Railways reduced the earlier 120-day window with effect from November 1, 2024, while retaining the longer booking period for foreign tourists.

The change was intended to improve visibility of genuine travel demand and reduce cancellations and unused reservations.

The separate foreign tourist provision remains relevant for international travellers planning complex itineraries well in advance.

For ordinary passengers, the most practical approach is to check the opening date for reservations on their chosen train and book through the official railway booking system.

They should also confirm train schedules, class availability and cancellation conditions before completing payment.

Foreign tourists and NRIs planning a long trip through India can benefit from the extended booking window, but they should verify the latest eligibility requirements and available classes before relying on it.

The facility provides an earlier opportunity to plan railway journeys; it does not guarantee a particular seat, berth or train.
