Your Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is one of the most important financial assets for your future. That’s why keeping your nominee details updated is essential.

Many employees add their parents as nominees when they start working.

However, life changes over time.

Marriage, the birth of a child, or changes in family circumstances may require you to update your EPF nomination details.

The good news is that the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) now allows members to change nominees completely online.

You can complete the process from home without visiting any EPFO office.

Documents You Need Before Updating Your Nominee

Before starting the process, make sure your Universal Account Number (UAN) is active and linked with Aadhaar.

You should also ensure that the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar is active, as it will be required for OTP verification.

Keep the following details of the new nominee ready:

Aadhaar number

Bank account number

IFSC code

Address

Passport-size photograph (scanned copy)

Also, verify that your photo and address are updated in your EPF profile.

Step-by-Step Process to Change Your EPF Nominee Online

Updating your nominee online is simple. Follow these steps:

Log in to the EPFO Member e-Sewa portal.

Click on the ‘Manage’ tab and select ‘e-Nomination’.

Choose ‘Enter New Nomination’.

Review your profile details and click ‘Proceed’.

In the ‘Family Declaration’ section, select ‘Yes’ if you have a family.

Enter the details of the new nominee and upload their photograph.

To add multiple nominees, click ‘Add Now’ and enter details for each person.

Decide the percentage share for every nominee.

Click ‘Save EPF Nomination’ to save the information.

Important Rule You Should Know

Whenever you submit a new nomination, the previous nomination is automatically cancelled.

This means you must add all the people you want to keep as nominees again.

For example, if your spouse is already a nominee and you now want to add your child, you must enter the details of both your spouse and child while submitting the new nomination.

Who Can Be Added as a Nominee?

Under EPFO rules, the following family members can be nominated:

Spouse

Children

Parents

If you want to nominate a brother or sister, you will need to select ‘No’ in the ‘Having Family’ section while filling out the nomination form.

Don’t Forget the E-Sign Process

Your nomination will not be considered valid until you complete the e-sign verification.

To do this:

Click on the ‘E-sign’ option.

Choose your Aadhaar number or Virtual ID (VID).

Enter the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.

Click ‘Submit’.

Once the OTP is verified, your updated nominee details will be successfully recorded in the EPFO database.

Keeping your EPF nomination updated ensures that your savings reach the right person when needed.

Since the process is now fully online, it only takes a few minutes to secure your family’s financial future.
