Airtel Rs 299 Plan has made a comeback in the prepaid market, but customers will now receive fewer benefits for the same recharge amount.
Bharti Airtel has relaunched the 28-day prepaid plan with 1GB of daily data instead of the earlier 1.5GB, effectively increasing the cost of data for subscribers.
The revised plan retains unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS per day.
However, the reduction in daily data means customers who previously depended on the Rs 299 recharge will have to adjust their usage or consider additional data packs.
The plan’s return comes after Airtel withdrew several prepaid recharge options in August 2026, pushing some customers towards more expensive alternatives.
Airtel Rs 299 Plan Returns With Reduced Benefits
The relaunched Rs 299 prepaid plan comes with a validity of 28 days. Subscribers receive 1GB of data every day, unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS per day.
Earlier, the same-priced recharge offered 1.5GB of daily data along with unlimited 5G benefits. The revised version therefore reduces the daily data allowance by 500MB.
For customers who regularly consume mobile data, this is an important change.
Although the recharge price remains Rs 299, subscribers receive less data than before, increasing the effective cost of the data included in the package.
The plan is available across Airtel’s telecom circles, according to the latest listing reported by TelecomTalk.
Why Airtel Brought Back the Rs 299 Recharge
The return of the plan comes after Airtel withdrew several prepaid packs in August 2026, including the Rs 299, Rs 579, Rs 619 and Rs 649 options.
Following the withdrawal, customers looking for a 28-day recharge with daily data had to consider the Rs 349 plan. This meant paying Rs 50 more upfront, an increase of nearly 17% compared with the earlier Rs 299 recharge.
The pricing changes also coincided with a slowdown in Airtel’s mobile subscriber additions during the September quarter.
The company’s reported mobile customer churn increased from 2.6% to 2.9%, while net subscriber additions declined compared with the previous quarter.
The restoration of the Rs 299 pack brings back a lower-priced option for budget-conscious prepaid users, although the reduced data allowance means customers do not get the same benefits as before.
Is the New Airtel Rs 299 Plan Worth Recharging?
The relaunched plan may suit customers who primarily need unlimited calling, SMS benefits and moderate daily internet usage.
However, users who regularly stream videos, download large files or use mobile data extensively may find the new 1GB daily allowance insufficient.
The reduction from 1.5GB to 1GB means customers who previously enjoyed the higher data limit may need to purchase additional data vouchers or consider a higher-priced recharge.
For customers comparing prepaid plans, it is important to look beyond the recharge price and consider daily data, validity, calling benefits and additional services.
Airtel’s latest move brings back the Rs 299 price point but changes the value customers receive in return.
For existing subscribers, the biggest difference is simple: the recharge costs the same, but the daily data allowance is lower.
