Gramin Dak Sevaks DA Hike brings good news for rural postal workers, as the Department of Posts has approved a revised Dearness Allowance (DA) of 63% of their basic Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA).
The revised rate will be applicable retrospectively from July 1, 2026, bringing their allowance in line with that of Central Government employees.
The Department of Posts issued the approval on November 4, 2026, following the Central Government’s decision to increase Dearness Allowance for its employees.
The move will also make Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) eligible for additional payments covering the period since the revised rate became effective.
Gramin Dak Sevaks DA Hike: What Has Changed?
According to the Department of Posts order, Gramin Dak Sevaks will receive DA at the rate of 63% of their basic TRCA with effect from July 1, 2026.
The order follows the Central Government’s revised DA decision issued by the Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure, on October 29, 2026.
The Department of Posts subsequently extended the same rate to GDS employees through its November 4 order.
This means rural postal workers will receive the same DA percentage as applicable to regular Central Government employees from the specified effective date.
The revised allowance is an increase from the earlier 60% rate applicable to GDS employees.
The latest decision raises the DA rate by three percentage points, offering additional financial support to the postal workforce.
GDS Employees to Receive DA Arrears
One important aspect of the announcement is its retrospective implementation.
Since the revised DA rate is effective from July 1, 2026, eligible Gramin Dak Sevaks will also be entitled to arrears for the intervening period.
The arrears will account for the difference between the earlier 60% DA rate and the revised 63% rate for the applicable months.
The actual additional amount will depend on an employee’s basic TRCA and the period for which the revised allowance is payable.
For example, an employee drawing a basic TRCA of ₹20,000 would receive ₹12,600 as DA at the revised 63% rate, compared with ₹12,000 at the earlier 60% rate.
This represents an additional ₹600 per month before considering any other applicable payments or deductions.
The Department of Posts has also clarified that the expenditure related to the revised allowance will be charged under the relevant salary account and met through the sanctioned grant.
Why the DA Revision Matters for Rural Postal Workers
Gramin Dak Sevaks play an important role in providing postal services across rural and remote parts of India.
Their responsibilities include supporting branch post offices and helping people access essential postal facilities.
Unlike regular full-time government employees, GDS personnel generally work under a separate engagement structure.
Their remuneration is calculated through the Time Related Continuity Allowance system, commonly known as TRCA.
The TRCA system takes working hours and job categories into account. Branch Postmasters and Assistant Branch Postmasters, along with other Dak Sevaks, form an important part of India’s rural postal network.
Dearness Allowance is a cost-of-living adjustment designed to help employees manage the impact of inflation on household expenses.
It is revised periodically, with changes linked to movements in the Consumer Price Index.
The decision to provide GDS employees with DA at the same rate as Central Government employees maintains the existing principle of linking their allowance rates with central government revisions.
What GDS Employees Should Know
The latest approval confirms the revised 63% DA rate from July 1, 2026. Eligible employees can expect the corresponding increase in their allowance, along with arrears for the applicable period.
The November 4 order also establishes that the revised allowance will be paid at the same rate applicable to Central Government employees.
For Gramin Dak Sevaks, the decision provides clarity on the revised allowance rate and the payment of arrears.
It also ensures that their DA calculation reflects the latest central government revision rather than remaining at the previous rate.
