Millions of LPG users across the country should pay attention to the latest advisory issued by oil marketing companies.

If you use an Indane gas connection from Indian Oil, Bharat Gas from BPCL, or HP Gas from HPCL, these new updates may affect you directly.

The companies have released new guidelines related to LPG bookings, cylinder delivery, and the shift towards PNG connections.

Amid reports of gas shortages, black marketing, and supply problems in some states, customers have been advised not to panic or store extra cylinders unnecessarily.

BPCL Launches Special PNG Offer

Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), which operates Bharat Gas, has introduced a new scheme to encourage customers to switch to piped natural gas (PNG).

Under this limited-time offer, customers can get a PNG connection without paying any application fee or upfront amount. Instead, the company will add just ₹1 per day to the customer’s bill.

This special offer is valid till May 22, 2026.

HP Gas and Indane Assure Normal Supply

HPCL has clarified that LPG supply across the country is currently normal and there is no shortage of cylinders. The company has also asked customers not to stockpile extra cylinders unnecessarily.

Regarding complaints of black marketing and supply irregularities in states like Karnataka, HPCL said the situation is being monitored closely.

Indian Oil, which supplies Indane Gas, also stated that it is working continuously to ensure customers do not face any shortage for daily cooking needs.

Important New Rules for LPG Customers

Customers should now understand some important new rules before booking or refilling their gas cylinders.

1. Lock-In Period Increased

The government has increased the waiting period between two LPG refill bookings to stop black marketing and supply misuse.

Customers in urban areas will now have to wait 25 days before booking another cylinder. In rural areas, the gap has been increased to 45 days.

Earlier, this waiting period was only 21 days. The rule applies to both 14.2 kg and 5 kg cylinders.

2. OTP Now Mandatory for Cylinder Delivery

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has made OTP verification compulsory for LPG deliveries.

When the delivery person arrives, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. You must share this OTP before receiving the cylinder.

Without the OTP, the cylinder will not be delivered.

3. Update Your Mobile Number Quickly

Customers whose mobile number is not updated with the gas agency may face delivery issues.

Since the OTP will only be sent to the registered number, customers are advised to update their latest mobile number as soon as possible.

E-KYC and PNG Shift Rules Explained

4. E-KYC Made Mandatory

Biometric Aadhaar authentication has now become compulsory for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) beneficiaries.

For non-PMUY customers, e-KYC is required only if it has not already been completed. Customers who have already finished the process do not need to do it again.

5. LPG Connections May Be Closed for Some Homes

In March 2026, the government reportedly gave 90 days to households that already have PNG connections to switch from LPG to PNG completely.

Several reports claimed that LPG connections in such homes could be disconnected by the end of June 2026. However, the government has not officially confirmed any final deadline yet.

Some reports suggest LPG services may stop from July 1, 2026, for homes already using PNG.

6. ‘One House, One Gas Connection’ Policy

The government is also implementing a “One House, One Gas Connection” policy.

The aim is to reduce duplicate LPG connections, stop black marketing, and ensure cylinders reach people who truly need them.

According to reports, many users are already receiving messages asking them to surrender LPG connections if they already have PNG installed at home.

Government Encouraging Online LPG Booking

Oil companies and the government are now promoting online LPG bookings to reduce crowding and panic.

Officials have clearly stated that there is no shortage of gas supply. Customers have also been encouraged to consider alternatives like PNG, induction cooktops, and electric cooking systems.

How These Rules May Affect Customers

These new LPG rules are expected to impact urban customers the most, especially families that already have PNG connections.

The new OTP delivery system and longer refill waiting period may also require customers to plan their cylinder bookings more carefully in advance.
