WhatsApp has introduced a new privacy-focused feature called Incognito Chat. With this feature, users can now chat with Meta AI privately without worrying about anyone reading their conversations.
The company says these chats will not be stored on Meta’s servers, giving users a safer and more secure way to interact with AI. The feature has been launched for both WhatsApp and the Meta AI app.
Mark Zuckerberg Announces the New Feature
Mark Zuckerberg personally announced the Incognito Chat feature through his WhatsApp channel. According to him, the feature works in a similar way to end-to-end encrypted messaging, where chats remain private and secure.
He explained that no one — including Meta and WhatsApp — will be able to read these AI conversations. However, this privacy feature is only available while chatting with Meta AI.
Regular chats with friends and family will continue to use WhatsApp’s existing end-to-end encryption system.
How Does Incognito Chat Work?
Meta revealed that the feature uses a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) to process AI requests securely. This means the conversation stays protected and cannot be accessed by Meta or WhatsApp.
Another important feature is that the chat disappears from the user’s phone after the session ends.
Zuckerberg said this makes Incognito Chat different from many other AI chat services, where conversation records may remain stored on servers for a long time.
Why Did Meta Introduce This Feature?
Meta says people are increasingly using AI tools for personal discussions and sensitive topics. Because of this, privacy has become more important than ever.
Zuckerberg explained that users should be able to discuss private matters with AI without worrying about anyone else accessing their conversations.
The company has already started rolling out the feature on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app, although it has not yet confirmed which countries will receive it first.
