If your FASTag is not linked to the correct vehicle number, you need to be careful. Such mismatches can lead to your FASTag being deactivated or even blacklisted.
This issue has come to light after several complaints at toll plazas, where the FASTag scanner detected a mismatch between the vehicle number and the registered FASTag. Taking this seriously, NHAI has now issued strict instructions to banks.
Banks that issue FASTags have been asked to verify whether each FASTag is being used on the same vehicle for which it was originally issued. If any tampering or mismatch is found, the FASTag will be blacklisted immediately.
What NHAI Has Said
NHAI has clearly stated that proper verification is necessary to avoid discrepancies in the system.
The main aim behind this move is to stop any misuse or revenue leakage. According to NHAI, many of these mismatches are linked to older FASTags that were issued before being properly added to the vehicle database.
Focus on Stronger Verification in Future
Earlier, the verification process was limited and depended heavily on manual checks. This made it easier for errors to slip through.
Now, NHAI is focusing on improving the accuracy of vehicle registration number (VRN) mapping with FASTags. This step is especially important as India prepares to roll out advanced toll systems like Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling.
With stricter checks in place, users are advised to ensure their FASTag details are correct to avoid any inconvenience while travelling.
