The Income Tax Department of India has launched an upgraded version of the TRACES portal, making tax-related work much easier.
This update comes along with the new Income-Tax Act 2025, which is effective from April 1, 2026.
The main goal is to simplify tax processes, reduce errors, and improve transparency for both individuals and businesses.
In short, the government is moving towards a more digital and user-friendly tax system.
Easy Access with a Better Experience
You can access the new TRACES portal through the official website as usual.
Old links will automatically redirect to the new portal
A separate portal for non-residents has also been introduced
The new version comes with a clean design and smoother navigation, making it easier even for first-time users.
Everything in One Place: Key Features
The biggest improvement is the centralised dashboard.
Now you can do multiple tasks in one place:
Download TDS certificates
Track your TDS credits
Access important forms
Request corrections
There is also a dedicated section for compliance under the new law, making it easier to find options for FY 2026 and earlier years.
Overall, the system reduces manual work and saves time.
New TDS Forms Introduced
The government has replaced old forms with new ones to improve accuracy.
Form 138: For TDS on salaries (used by employers and banks for pensions)
Form 140: For non-salary payments like rent, commission, brokerage, and professional fees
These forms will still be filed quarterly, but they are designed to reduce errors and speed up processing.
Property Buyers: No Major Changes
If you are buying property, the process remains mostly the same.
You still need to pay TDS using Form 26QB on the e-filing portal.
After payment, the TRACES portal helps you:
Download Form 16B
Check TDS credits
Verify details
Make corrections if needed
TCS Rules Made Simpler
There’s also some relief in Tax Collected at Source (TCS) rules.
Foreign travel packages now have a flat 2% TCS (earlier up to 20%)
Education and medical expenses abroad now have 2% TCS (earlier 5%)
This reduces the upfront tax burden for many taxpayers.
Final Take
The upgraded TRACES portal is a big step towards simplifying tax compliance in India.
With a better interface, fewer errors, and all services in one place, it makes managing TDS and TCS much easier for everyone.
