Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a new safety feature called Kavach Number to improve digital privacy for women mobile users.
The initiative was announced on International Women’s Day and aims to protect users from privacy breaches, unwanted calls, and misuse of personal phone numbers.
The telecom company shared the update on X, highlighting its focus on providing safer and more private communication services.
How the Kavach Number Works
The Kavach Number provides women with a temporary or alternate 10-digit mobile number.
This number can be shared in situations where users are normally asked to reveal their personal phone number.
The alternate number is securely linked to the user’s original BSNL mobile connection.
After activation, BSNL sends the Kavach Number to the user through an SMS.
Women can then use this number at recharge shops, retail outlets, or service counters.
While the transaction continues through the original BSNL account, the real phone number remains hidden from others.
Why This Feature Is Important
In many everyday situations, people are asked to write or speak their phone numbers in public places.
This can expose their contact details to strangers.
Such situations sometimes lead to privacy violations, spam calls, fraud attempts, or harassment.
The Kavach system aims to reduce these risks by masking the main phone number and providing an extra layer of security.
This feature allows women to carry out routine tasks with greater confidence and protection.
Not a New SIM, But a Secure Alias
The Kavach Number is not a separate SIM or mobile connection.
Instead, it works as an alias linked to the main BSNL number.
All services such as recharges, verification, and customer requests will continue to function normally through the primary number.
Although BSNL has not yet shared full operational details or future expansion plans, the launch of Kavach Number represents an important step toward improving digital safety for women across India.
