South Central Railway has launched a pilot program for a new digital service called the Rail Parcel App.
The launch took place at Rail Nilayam in Hyderabad.
This is the first time Indian Railways is testing a door-to-door parcel booking and delivery system in this way.
The goal is simple: make parcel sending as easy as ordering something online.
Three Big Features That Make It Different
According to General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, the app brings three major benefits for customers.
First, it offers door-to-door pickup and delivery.
You won’t need to visit the railway station to send a parcel.
Second, customers can book parcels online through the app.
Third, users get full tracking visibility.
This means you can monitor your parcel’s journey from pickup to delivery.
Right now, the service is being tested in seven cities.
If the pilot succeeds, the railway plans to expand it across India.
Teamwork Behind the Fast Launch
The project was completed in a short time, thanks to the joint efforts of multiple teams.
The headquarters team, commercial department, finance teams, and the Hyderabad division all played key roles.
Banking support from State Bank of India also helped speed up the process.
Railway officials say customer feedback during the pilot phase will help improve the service before a nationwide rollout.
Partnership with IIM Bangalore for Better Logistics
Alongside the app launch, South Central Railway has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.
The partnership focuses on studying the freight logistics market.
This collaboration is expected to bring fresh ideas and practical research into railway freight operations.
It will also give IIM Bangalore a real-world platform to test innovative logistics solutions.
With digital tools and academic support coming together, Indian Railways is clearly aiming to modernize its parcel and freight services for the future.
