Himachal hikes Toll Tax for outside Vehicles

Traveling to Himachal Pradesh by road is about to get more expensive.

The state government has announced new entry toll rates under the Toll Policy 2026–27.

These revised charges will come into effect from April 1, 2026, and will apply mainly to vehicles coming from outside the state.

The move is aimed at increasing state revenue and improving road infrastructure.

However, it also means higher costs for tourists, transporters, and construction companies.

Higher Entry Fees for Private Vehicles

Under the new rules, cars, jeeps, vans, and other light motor vehicles from outside Himachal Pradesh will have to pay ₹170 per day.

Earlier, private cars paid around ₹70, making this a sharp increase.

In some reports, certain categories are mentioned at ₹130, but most sources confirm a fixed ₹170 daily toll for private cars and SUVs.

The same rate applies to private passenger vehicles with seating up to 12+1 (including the driver).

This change alone represents nearly a two- to two-and-a-half-fold jump for many private vehicle owners entering the state.

New Toll Rates for Buses and Trucks

The revised policy also brings significant changes for commercial and heavy vehicles.

Passenger vehicles with more than 12+1 and up to 32+1 seating, along with minibuses and light commercial vehicles, will now pay between ₹200 and ₹320 per day.

Larger buses with more than 32+1 seats and trucks with up to two axles will be charged between ₹250 and ₹570.

In some cases, commercial buses could be charged as much as ₹600 per day.

Three-axle commercial vehicles will pay ₹600 daily.

Heavy construction machinery, earth-moving equipment, and vehicles with four to six axles will be charged ₹800.

Oversized vehicles with seven or more axles will have to pay ₹900 per day.

This means the financial impact will not only affect tourists but also transport operators and construction firms working in the state.

Special Categories: Tractors and Auto Rickshaws

The policy also sets separate rates for smaller vehicles.

Non-Himachali tractors with permits will be charged ₹100 per day.

Auto rickshaws and scooter rickshaws entering from outside the state will pay ₹30 per day.

Meanwhile, local Himachali vehicles operating near toll barriers will get a concessional rate of ₹100 per day.

A Major Hike Compared to Earlier Rates

Previously, private cars paid around ₹70, and heavy goods vehicles were charged up to ₹720.

With the new structure, many categories are seeing toll rates rise by two to two-and-a-half times.

The government says the increased revenue will help improve roads and infrastructure across the state.

However, as the new rates take effect in April 2026, travelers and businesses will need to prepare for higher entry costs when entering Himachal Pradesh.
