Popular payment platform PhonePe has recently launched a new feature for users in India. Now, users can make UPI payments using biometric authentication.

This means you no longer need to enter your UPI PIN for small transactions every time. You can simply use your fingerprint or Face ID,

and the payment will be completed instantly. This update makes digital payments faster, safer, and more user-friendly.

How Biometric Payment Works

With this new PhonePe feature, users can link their bank accounts to the app for biometric authentication.

In the beginning, you need to set up both your UPI PIN and biometrics once. After that, you can use your fingerprint or Face ID instead of the PIN for payments up to ₹5,000.

This method is faster and also more secure because device-level biometric security protects your account.

How to Set Up Biometric Payments on PhonePe

Setting up biometric payments on PhonePe is very easy:

Open the PhonePe app

Go to Profile

Select Manage Payments

Tap Biometric Pay

Enable biometric authentication for your bank account

Initially, you will need both PIN and biometrics. But for smaller transactions, only biometric authentication will be required.

Why This Feature Is Important

This feature provides a one-touch payment experience. Users can now make payments easily even in crowded or rushed situations.

This update also aligns with new guidelines from Reserve Bank of India and National Payments Corporation of India, which officially allow biometric authentication on the UPI platform.

As a result, payments become quicker, more secure, and more convenient for users.

Availability and Future Plans

This feature has been rolled out first for Android users. It will be released for iOS users in phases. In the future, this feature may also appear in other UPI apps, since NPCI has made it available to all UPI platforms.

Soon, users may not need to enter a PIN for UPI payments at all, making digital payments easier than ever.
