The central government is planning to introduce new passport rules starting February 15. Some of these rules will apply to people aged 18 and above, while others may affect children’s passports.

Although the government has not officially announced the rules yet, discussions about these changes are ongoing.

According to reports, rules related to passports for children under 18, teenagers, and newborns may change. These changes mainly focus on parental consent and identification documents, making the passport process easier.

Online Submission of Documents

Under the new rules, documents like school ID cards or birth certificates can be submitted online. This will make the passport process faster and more convenient.

Applicants will no longer need to visit offices repeatedly to submit documents, as most work can be done from home.

Rules for Children’s Passports

In India, passports issued to children under 18 are valid for five years. For a child’s passport, documents such as the birth certificate, passport-related documents,

and proof of residence of both parents are required. Parents must also fill out the Annexure-H form to give their consent.

Children born after October 1, 2023, can use their birth certificate as proof of age.

To apply for a passport for children under 18, parents must fill out an online form and book an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra.

Children under 5 years of age only need to provide a photograph. Biometric verification is not required, but it is mandatory to bring the child to the center.

Rules After Turning 18 and for Single Parents

Once a child turns 18, they must apply for an adult passport.

If you are a single parent, you must submit the Annexure-C form along with the death certificate and divorce papers.
