Google Maps has introduced a new Gemini AI feature for pedestrians and cyclists.

Previously, Gemini offered hands-free assistance only for driving, public transport, and two-wheeler navigation.

Now, users can get AI help while walking or cycling, making navigation safer and more convenient.

How Gemini Helps on the Go

To use Gemini, start navigation in walking or cycling mode and tap the Gemini icon at the top right of the screen.

You can also summon it by saying “Hey Google”, so there’s no need to touch your phone.

Gemini acts like a personal tour guide, providing details about your surroundings, highlighting landmarks, and suggesting nearby restaurants or attractions along your route.

For cyclists, Gemini offers fully hands-free support.

You can ask for your estimated arrival time, get meeting reminders, or send messages without taking your eyes off the road.

Safer and Smarter Navigation

This update improves both safety and convenience.

Since you don’t need to unlock or touch your phone, you can stay focused on walking or cycling, reducing the risk of accidents.

Gemini now replaces old voice commands in Google Maps and can gather information from connected Google services.

You can ask it about parking spots, EV charging stations, petrol pumps, or nearby restaurants.

Directions have also become more intuitive.

Instead of distance-based instructions like “Turn left after 100 meters,” Gemini can now guide you using landmarks, such as “Turn right after the petrol pump.” (This feature is not yet available in all countries.)

Rollout for Android and iOS

The Gemini AI update for walking and cycling is rolling out gradually in regions where Gemini is available.

oth Android and iOS users will soon be able to take advantage of this smart and hands-free navigation feature.
