Following instructions from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, IndiGo will start compensating affected passengers from next week. Thousands of flights were cancelled in early December, causing major inconvenience to many travelers.

As compensation, IndiGo will issue ₹10,000 travel vouchers to eligible passengers starting December 26. These vouchers are meant for passengers who were stranded at airports for several hours on December 3, 4, and 5.

The government has asked the airline to ensure that all eligible passengers receive compensation as soon as possible.

Who Will Receive the Refund First

IndiGo will first compensate passengers who booked their tickets directly through the airline’s official website. This is because the airline already has complete details of these customers.

After that, IndiGo will collect passenger information from travel agents and online travel agencies to make payments directly to all affected passengers.

DGCA and Government Monitoring the Process

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will closely monitor the entire compensation process.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation will also keep an eye on complaints received through the Air Seva portal to ensure quick resolution.

IndiGo has already started issuing refunds for cancelled flights and has fully refunded some passengers. However, many passengers who booked tickets through online travel agencies are still waiting for their payments.

Some platforms, including MakeMyTrip, began the refund process even before receiving money from the airline. The DGCA has instructed all online travel agencies to refund passengers the full amount without making any deductions.
