The crisis surrounding IndiGo flights has worsened. In the latest update, all IndiGo flights scheduled to depart from Delhi Airport on Friday, December 5th, have been canceled until midnight.
According to the airline, its teams are working closely with the Ministry of Civil Aviation, DGCA, BCAS, AAI, and various airport operators to bring operations back to normal.
IndiGo stated that it is taking every possible step to reduce the “cascading effect” of continuous delays and restore full operations quickly.
For the past three days, IndiGo flights have been canceled repeatedly, and the number is rising every day.
According to aviation regulator DGCA, around 170–200 IndiGo flights are being canceled daily, which is far above normal levels.
Decision to Reduce Flights
As per the latest information, IndiGo has decided to reduce the number of flights starting December 8th. However, it will take time for operations to return to normal.
According to news agency PTI, the airline informed the DGCA that it will cut down the number of flights from December 8th
and expects to fully stabilize operations by February 10, 2026. More flight cancellations are expected in the coming days.
The airline has urged passengers to check the latest flight status before leaving for the airport. A flight-status link has been provided on its official platform.
IndiGo said it understands the inconvenience caused to passengers and is focused on restoring services as soon as possible.
Government’s Strong Reaction
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken the frequent cancellations very seriously.
Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu held a high-level meeting with senior officials and expressed strong displeasure with IndiGo’s management.
The meeting was attended by the Civil Aviation Secretary, DGCA, senior ministry officials, and representatives from the Airport Authority of India.
During the meeting, IndiGo presented its cancellation data and explained that the disruptions were caused by issues in crew planning, the implementation of revised flight duty time limitation (FDTL) rules, and weather-related challenges.
The airline said that the new FDTL rules were implemented in phases, as directed by the court, to ensure better fatigue management and improved flight safety.
However, Minister Ram Mohan Naidu criticized the airline for poor handling of the situation and noted that there was enough time to prepare for the new regulations.
He instructed IndiGo to immediately normalize operations and ensure that airfares do not rise due to the current disruptions.
