Online food delivery platform Zomato has introduced a new feature aimed at improving customer experience and offering better choices.
Under this feature, users will be asked for consent to share their names, addresses, and phone numbers directly with restaurants.
This update is currently in the pilot phase, and customers have full control over whether they want to share their details.
Zomato says the goal is to help restaurants understand customer preferences, buying habits, and contact details so they can offer improved service and personalized deals.
Why Restaurants Wanted This Data
This move comes after long-standing discussions with the National Restaurant Association of India (NRAI).
For nearly a decade, restaurants have said that lack of customer data limited their ability to engage directly with customers.
Sharing this information—only with consent—will help restaurants understand their customers better and build stronger relationships.
Zomato has clarified that phone numbers and other personal details will only be shared with explicit permission from the customer.
No additional information will be shared without consent, ensuring privacy protection.
Impact on Customers and Restaurants
Restaurants believe this change will allow them to offer exclusive deals, provide more personalized service,
and spend their marketing budget more effectively. Customers may receive tailored offers and a smoother service experience.
However, some users and privacy experts have advised caution to prevent misuse of personal information.
Zomato’s food delivery CEO, Aditya Mangla, emphasized that the process is fully transparent
and user-controlled, stating that it is “not a hidden or automated process” and customers can decide exactly what they want to share.
