From availing government schemes to opening bank accounts, Aadhaar has become essential.

But with its growing use, cases of Aadhaar-related fraud have also been rising.

To strengthen data protection, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new feature — the Aadhaar Data Vault, which ensures that your Aadhaar information stays safe and secure.

What Is the Aadhaar Data Vault?

The Aadhaar Data Vault is a special, secure database designed to store Aadhaar numbers and personal information like your name, date of birth, gender, address, photo, mobile number, and email ID — all in encrypted form.

It’s built using Hardware Security Module (HSM) technology, which adds an extra layer of protection to prevent data leaks or misuse.

By keeping Aadhaar-linked information in a protected system, the chances of fraud or unauthorized access become very low.

Who Needs to Use the Aadhaar Data Vault?

According to the Aadhaar Act, 2016, all Requesting Entities (REs) — that is, agencies or individuals who use Aadhaar data for authentication — must implement this vault.

These entities include any organization that stores or processes Aadhaar numbers and related details.

The main goal is to make sure that Aadhaar data is securely encrypted and stored only within the infrastructure of authorized entities.

This move not only protects citizens’ information but also helps maintain public trust in digital identity systems.

Updating Aadhaar from Home Made Easier

UIDAI is also working on making Aadhaar updates easier and safer.

Soon, you’ll be able to update your Aadhaar address, verify details, and even complete biometric updates from home.

The system will automatically fetch data from official sources such as your birth certificate, driving license, passport, PAN card, PDS, and MNREGA records.

This will help eliminate fake documents and simplify the entire process.

UIDAI is even planning to integrate electricity bill data to make the system more efficient.

In short:

The Aadhaar Data Vault is a big step forward in protecting your digital identity.

With tighter security and new tech-enabled updates, UIDAI aims to make Aadhaar not only more useful but also much safer for every citizen.
