The Transport Department has announced that all ‘non-tax e-challans’ issued between January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2021, will be closed.
If a case was pending in court, it will now appear as ‘Disposed-Abated’ on the portal.
If a case was pending at the office level and its time limit has expired, it will show as ‘Closed-Time Barred’ on the portal.
This step will help resolve issues related to vehicle fitness, permits, transfers, and High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).
According to officials, the process will be completed within 30 days.
After that, vehicle owners can check their challan status on the portal.
If any challan still appears, they can call the department’s helpline for support.
Only challans pending in court as of December 31, 2021, or those whose time limit has expired without being sent to court, will be waived.
Digital Settlement of Pending Challans
Cases involving serious crimes, accidents, or other legal matters are not covered under this decision.
Between 2017 and 2021, 30.52 lakh e-challans were issued:
17.59 lakh already resolved
12.93 lakh pending (including 10.84 lakh in court and 1.29 lakh at the office level)
Now, these pending challans will be digitally settled.
On the portal, they will appear as “settled”, though the complete record and audit trail will still be preserved.
Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh said this decision is legally sound, transparent, and beneficial to the public.
All officials have been directed to complete the process within the given timeframe.
