Vodafone Idea (Vi) has a ₹99 prepaid plan that seems attractive to many users, especially at a time when other telecom companies are increasing their plan prices to boost average revenue per user (ARPU).
However, if we look closely, this plan may not be as affordable as it appears. It’s actually part of Vi’s strategy to raise its ARPU.
This ₹99 plan comes with a validity of 15 days. Users get 200MB of data and voice calling benefits worth ₹99. However, SMS service is not included, except for porting SMS to 1900.
The calling charges are 2.5 paise per second, which means this plan is mainly suitable for users who just want basic calling, especially those still using 2G networks.
Why Vi’s ₹99 Plan Still Matters
In India, many users still use 2G phones and don’t require internet. They mainly want to make calls
and keep their mobile numbers active. For them, having a low-cost plan under ₹99 is essential to stay connected.
While Vi aims to grow by adding more 4G users, this ₹99 plan helps the company retain its 2G user base and still increase its revenue.
Even though the plan looks cheap, it’s actually a clever business move by Vi.
It fulfills the minimum needs of users and at the same time supports the company’s financial strategy.
