Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) is a small savings scheme launched by the government to secure the financial future of girls.
The main aim is to support them with money for higher education or marriage when they grow up.
Till now, to open a Sukanya Samriddhi account, people had to visit a bank or post office, fill out a form,
and submit it there. But now, this process has become easier—you can open the account from the comfort of your home in just a few minutes.
No more visits to the bank or post office
Punjab National Bank (PNB) has launched a new feature for its customers. Now, using the PNB ONE mobile banking app, you can open an SSY account online without stepping out of your house.
This will not only make the process easier but also help more people join the scheme.
It will spread awareness, boost savings, and support women empowerment. More families can now benefit from this government scheme.
Steps to open an SSY account using PNB ONE app:
Open the PNB ONE app on your mobile phone.
Go to the Services section in the main menu.
Click on the ‘Govt Initiative’ option.
Select ‘Sukanya Samriddhi Account Opening’.
Follow the instructions shown on the screen to complete the process.
Even though opening the account can now be done online, for tasks like partial withdrawal, account closure, or premature closure, you will still need to visit the bank in person.
Under this scheme, you can deposit a minimum of Rs 250 and a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh in a year.
Parents or legal guardians can open an account in the name of a girl child who is below 10 years old.
The scheme offers an interest rate of up to 8.2% on the deposit. Also, it provides tax benefits under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act.
The account matures when the girl turns 21, but partial withdrawal is allowed after the age of 18.
