On Thursday morning, several media reports claimed that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) would begin collecting toll tax from two-wheelers (bikes) starting July 15, 2025.
These reports also mentioned a ₹2,000 fine for bike riders who violate the toll rules. The news created panic among crores of bike users across the country.
What Is the Truth?
Sources from NHAI were quick to respond and dismissed these reports as false. They confirmed that:
No such order has been passed
No toll tax will be collected from bikes
The FASTag-based toll collection system is not being extended to two-wheelers
Nitin Gadkari Responds
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, also condemned the false news.

Key highlights of the new pass:
Cost: ₹3,000
Validity: 1 year or 200 trips, whichever comes first
Applicable to: Non-commercial vehicles only
Aimed at reducing toll payments for frequent travelers.
