Tatkal Ticket Rules: From July 1, 2025, the Railways is bringing a big change in the rules for Tatkal ticket booking.
To book Tatkal tickets on the IRCTC website or app, linking your Aadhaar with your IRCTC account will be compulsory.
As per the new rule, only users who have completed Aadhaar authentication will be allowed to book Tatkal tickets.
OTP Verification Will Also Be Required
Starting July 15, Aadhaar OTP verification will also be mandatory at the time of Tatkal booking.
This rule will apply to all types of bookings—whether online, at railway counters, or through agents. So, make sure your mobile number linked with Aadhaar is active.
Increased Ticket Booking Limit for Aadhaar-Linked Accounts
Now, if your IRCTC account is linked with Aadhaar, you can book up to 24 train tickets per month. But if Aadhaar is not verified, you will be allowed to book only 12 tickets per month.
Steps to Link Aadhaar with IRCTC Account
Go to www.irctc.co.in or open the IRCTC Rail Connect app.
Log in using your username and password.
Go to the ‘My Account’ section and click on ‘Link Your Aadhaar’ or ‘Aadhaar KYC’.
Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number or Virtual ID.
Click on ‘Send OTP’.
Enter the OTP received on the mobile number linked with Aadhaar.
Agree to the consent form and submit.
Once this process is complete, your Aadhaar status will be shown as ‘Verified’ in your IRCTC profile.
How to Add Aadhaar-Verified Passengers to the Master List
While booking Tatkal tickets, you can only choose passengers whose Aadhaar is verified. To add them to the Master List, follow these steps:
After logging in, go to ‘My Profile’ → ‘Master List’.
Enter the passenger’s name, gender, date of birth, and Aadhaar number.
Select Aadhaar as the ID proof.
Submit the information.
Once the details are verified, the status will change from ‘Pending’ to ‘Verified’.
