The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has extended the deadline for activating the Universal Account Number (UAN) and linking it with Aadhaar.
The new deadline is now 30 June 2025, instead of the earlier 31 May. This extension gives more time to employees, especially those in the unorganized sector
and contract workers, who had trouble activating their UAN before. With this extra time, they can also benefit from the Employees’ Life Insurance (ELI) scheme.
What is the Employees’ Life Insurance (ELI) Scheme?
The Employees’ Life Insurance (ELI) scheme is also called the Employees’ Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) scheme.
It provides life insurance to employees who are members of the EPF. If an employee dies while still working, their nominee receives a lump sum insurance amount of up to ₹7 lakh.
To get this benefit, the employee’s UAN must be activated and linked to Aadhaar.
Why Should You Activate Your UAN?
Activating your UAN and linking it with Aadhaar is important to access EPF services such as life insurance (EDLI), pension (EPS), PF withdrawal, and other claims. It verifies your identity and keeps your records updated with the EPFO.
If you haven’t activated your UAN yet—especially if your Aadhaar is not linked or your employer added you without activation—you should activate it right away.
How to Activate Your UAN
Go to the EPFO member portal: https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in
