Infosys Layoffs Update: Infosys has laid off more than 240 entry-level employees who did not clear the company’s internal assessments.
This follows a previous round of layoffs in February, where over 300 trainees were dismissed for the same reason.
Infosys is now offering free upskilling opportunities to those affected through training partners NIIT and UpGrad.
Company’s Statement: The layoffs were confirmed through an email sent by Infosys on April 18.
The company stated that despite giving trainees extra preparation time, doubt-clearing sessions, mock assessments, and three chances to pass, they failed to meet the eligibility criteria for the ‘Generic Foundation Training Programme.’
As a result, they could not continue in the Trainee Programme.
Support for Affected Employees: The email also mentioned that Infosys will support the dismissed trainees with job placement services.
Additionally, they can take part in Infosys-sponsored training programs to prepare for roles in the BPM (Business Process Management) sector.
After completing the training, they may apply for jobs at Infosys BPM Limited. For those interested in continuing a career in IT, Infosys is also offering training in IT fundamentals.
Additional Support: Trainees will receive one month’s salary, along with accommodation and travel allowances from the training centre in Mysuru to Bengaluru or their hometown.
Training Options Available: Infosys has partnered with UpGrad for BPM training and with NIIT for IT training. These free training programs were also offered to those laid off in February.
Assessment Details: On April 17, 2025, around 730 trainees from the batch that joined on October 21, 2024, took their third and final assessment attempt.
Sources informed Moneycontrol that the next batch of results is expected next week.
More Layoffs Last Month: On March 26, Infosys let go of 30–45 trainees at its Mysuru campus for similar reasons.
They were also offered alternate career paths, including a 12-week BPM training program.
Hiring Timeline: Many of these trainees were hired for the roles of Systems Engineer (SE) and Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE).
They had waited for over two and a half years since their graduation, having completed their degrees during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Most were recruited through online interviews without visiting any office.
Future Hiring Plans: Despite the current challenges, Infosys announced on April 17 that it plans to hire 20,000 freshers this fiscal year.
This comes even as the company faces reduced demand in key markets like the US and Europe. Last year, Infosys had onboarded over 15,000 freshers.
