OpenAI has launched GPT-6 Astra, its latest flagship AI model, with a major focus on taking action instead of simply providing answers.

Released on September 3, 2026, Astra is designed to handle complex, multi-step tasks with less human involvement. OpenAI describes it as its most intelligent and aligned system so far.

The model is being rolled out gradually, with access expanding to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, as well as developers through the OpenAI API and major cloud platforms.

OpenAI reports very high results on several advanced benchmarks, including a 100% score on its ExploitBench cybersecurity evaluation.

However, powerful cybersecurity capabilities also bring serious risks if misused.

Because of this, access to Astra’s strongest security features is initially being limited to trusted organisations and defensive uses.

OpenAI says the model has also been improved in areas such as understanding user intentions and staying within authorised limits.

Is This a Step Toward AGI?

The bigger story behind GPT-6 Astra may not simply be another improvement in chatbot technology.
