Stricter Road Surveillance to Reduce Traffic Violations

Breaking traffic rules is about to become more costly, as the government plans to tighten electronic surveillance across the country.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has submitted a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to the Supreme Court to monitor rule violators more effectively.

As per the SOP, high-tech cameras will keep an eye on people who:

Use mobile phones while driving

Don’t wear seat belts or helmets

Drive on the wrong side

Eat or drink while driving

These cameras will record video evidence of every violation, which can be used later to prove the offense.

Advanced Technology to Track Speed and Details

According to a report by ET Auto, the main goal of this SOP is to reduce accidents caused by wrong-side driving and distractions.

The new surveillance cameras will be highly advanced — capable of recording vehicles even at speeds of up to 200 kmph.

For each violation, a video clip of 1 to 10 seconds will be created. This video will include the vehicle number, location, date, and time.

Real-time alerts will be sent to traffic police or transport departments so they can take immediate action. All states and union territories will be required to implement this electronic system.

Action Against Fake Information and Easy Appeals

People who repeatedly change their phone numbers or addresses to avoid fines will face strict action.

The government will give a one-time window of three months for vehicle owners to update their information.

After that, failure to update will result in loss of access to driving or transport services.

Also, if someone disagrees with a traffic fine, they will be able to appeal through an online system.

The entire process is being built to catch violators quickly while ensuring emergency services like ambulances or fire trucks are not affected.

This new system aims to reduce traffic violations and improve road safety across the country.
