Easy steps to get a PAN Card for your Child online

Whether it’s filing income tax returns, opening a bank account, or making investments, many tasks require a PAN card.

Thus, having a PAN card is essential. Many people believe that PAN cards are only issued to those above 18 years, but this is incorrect. There is no age restriction for obtaining a PAN card.

Under Section 160 of the Income Tax Act, you can obtain a PAN card for a child, known as a ‘Minor PAN Card.’

Only parents are authorized to use this PAN card on behalf of their child. The online application process to get a PAN card for your child is straightforward and easy.

Why is PAN card important for a child?

A child having a PAN card comes with many benefits. The Income Tax Department states that any minor can obtain a PAN card, as there are no specific rules against it.

However, when the child reaches 18 years of age, the PAN card must be updated.

Minor PAN cards do not include signatures or photographs, which need to be added later.

Benefits of a Minor PAN Card

Investment: A PAN card is necessary if you want your child to invest. It also becomes important if you plan to name your child as a nominee in your investments.

Bank Account: To open a bank account for your child, a PAN card is required.

Earning: If your child has any source of income, a PAN card will also be needed for that.

Process to Apply Online for a PAN Card

Search for NSDL: Open Google and search for “NSDL.” Click on the first link titled “Online PAN application.”

Select PAN Application Type: Once the PAN application page opens, choose “New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A)” and select ‘Individual’ in the category.

Fill in Applicant Information: Enter your Full Name, Date of Birth, Mobile Number, and Email ID in the Applicant Information section.

Complete Captcha and Submit: Fill in the captcha code and click on the submit button.

Note Down Token Number: A token number will be displayed. Make a note of it and click on “Continue with PAN Application Form.”

Select Document Forwarding Option: Choose option number 3, “Forward application documents physically.”

Enter Aadhaar Details: Input the last four digits of your Aadhaar number and your name. Review the pre-filled information and provide any additional details as required.

Submit Parent and Income Details: Next, enter the required details about your parents, your income, and upload necessary documents.

Final Submission: Once all the steps are completed, you will see the option to submit your application. Please note that a fee of Rs 107 will be charged for this service.
