Patanjali halts sale of 14 Products following License Suspension

Haridwar:

Patanjali Ayurveda Limited, led by Baba Ramdev, submitted an affidavit to the Supreme Court stating that it has prohibited the sale of 14 products and instructed the withdrawal of their advertisements.

The Supreme Court had criticized Baba Ramdev and Patanjali Ayurveda MD Acharya Balkrishna for the misleading publicity surrounding these products.

As a result, he had to publicly apologize.

These products were launched by Patanjali during the COVID-19 pandemic with claims of being able to cure the disease completely.

The Uttarakhand State Licensing Authority suspended the manufacturing licenses for these products in April 2024.

Ban imposed due to misleading advertisement

In April this year, Uttarakhand’s drug regulator banned 14 products from Ramdev’s pharmaceutical company.

This decision came after the company repeatedly published misleading advertisements about these medicines.

The licensing authority of Uttarakhand suspended the licenses for these 14 products from Patanjali’s Divya Pharmacy due to their misleading advertisements about effectiveness.

Previously, Ramdev had apologized in the Supreme Court for misleading advertisements related to his medicines.

Patanjali stopped the sale of these products

Patanjali informed the Supreme Court in writing on Tuesday that it has discontinued the sale of 14 products,

which were suspended by Uttarakhand’s drug regulator.

These products include Ramdev’s traditional medicines for asthma, bronchitis, and diabetes.

As per media reports, the government has banned several medicines from Divya Pharmacy, including Shwasari Gold, Shwasari Vati, Broncom, Shwasari Pravahi, Shwasari Avalheha, Mukta Vati Extra Power, Lipidom, Livamrit Advance, Livogrit, BP Grit, Madhugrit, Madhunashini Vati Extra Power, and Patanjali Drishti Eye Drop.

Apology published in 67 Newspapers

The Supreme Court is currently addressing a case concerning Patanjali’s misleading advertisement of a medicine, with the next hearing scheduled for July 30th.

Previously, the Court had criticized Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna for the misleading advertisement and instructed them to apologize.

On April 23rd, the Court reprimanded them again for not prominently displaying the apology in newspapers.

The Court even questioned Baba Ramdev about whether the size of Patanjali’s newspaper apology was equivalent to a full-page advertisement for its products.

Patanjali responded by stating it had published the apology in 67 newspapers and pledged not to repeat its error.

The Supreme Court is currently reviewing a petition filed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), alleging that Patanjali has been conducting a propaganda campaign against the Covid vaccination drive and modern medical systems.
