Earlier, it was expected that the TOR would be finalized by the end of March, but it has been delayed.

The TOR outlines the rules and responsibilities under which the Pay Commission operates.

Once the TOR is approved, the government can issue an official notification to set up the Commission.

Earlier, the 8th Pay Commission was expected to be formed in the first week of April 2025. However, now there is a chance that the report might be delayed beyond March 2026.

Usually, past Pay Commissions have taken about 12 months to prepare and submit their reports.

In March, the Finance Ministry mentioned that some important data inputs were still pending.

What Does the 2.86 Fitment Factor Mean?

If the 8th Pay Commission recommends a fitment factor of 2.86, it could result in a major hike in the basic salaries of central government employees.

This will directly benefit lakhs of employees and pensioners. It would bring much-needed relief and boost morale among government staff.

Now, all eyes are on the government’s next move and the official announcement of the 8th Pay Commission.
