Seven years ago, the Central Government launched a scheme that directly sends money to farmers’ bank accounts.
Today, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi — better known as PM-KISAN — has completed 7 years.
Launched in February 2019 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scheme was created to support farmers who own cultivable land and need financial assistance.
What Is PM-KISAN and How Much Do Farmers Get?
Under PM-KISAN, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 per year.
This amount is paid in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each.
The money is sent directly to farmers’ Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
There are no middlemen involved. The goal is simple — fast and transparent financial support.
Since its launch, the government has transferred over Rs 4 lakh crore in 21 instalments to farmers across the country.
Waiting for the 22nd Instalment
Farmers are now waiting for the 22nd instalment of PM-KISAN.
It is expected that the next Rs 2,000 payment may be credited between March and April.
In November 2025, the Prime Minister released the 21st instalment from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
During that round, over 9.7 crore farmers received around Rs 20,500 crore directly in their bank accounts.
Who Can Apply? Key Details Required
To enrol in PM-KISAN, farmers must provide the following information:
Farmer’s or spouse’s name
Date of birth

Other details as mentioned in the bank passbook
The main eligibility condition is owning cultivable land. However, some higher-income categories are excluded.
Who Is Not Eligible?
Certain groups are not allowed to receive benefits under PM-KISAN. These include:
Institutional landholders
Former and current holders of constitutional posts
Former and present Ministers, MPs, MLAs, Mayors, and District Panchayat Chairpersons
Serving or retired government officers and employees (except Multi-Tasking Staff, Class IV, and Group D employees)
Pensioners receiving Rs 10,000 or more per month (with similar exceptions)
Individuals who paid income tax in the last assessment year
The scheme is designed specifically for small and genuine farmers who need financial support.
A Direct Boost to Farmers
With its digital verification system and Aadhaar-based transfers, PM-KISAN has reduced delays and leakages.
As it completes seven years, the scheme continues to play a key role in providing steady income support to millions of farmers across India.
Now, all eyes are on the upcoming instalment — and the next Rs 2,000 credit.
