Amid reports of LPG shortages, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has taken a big step to support migrant workers and students.

The government has decided to double the supply of 5-kg LPG cylinders, ensuring easier access to cooking fuel during difficult times.

This move aims to reduce pressure on supply and provide immediate relief to those who depend on smaller LPG cylinders for daily needs.

More LPG Cylinders for Migrant Workers

The government has announced that the supply of 5-kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders will be doubled based on recent demand trends. Earlier limits have now been relaxed, allowing more cylinders to be distributed than before.

Officials said this decision is based on actual demand from migrant workers and the current supply situation. Simply put, more people will now be able to get cylinders without long waiting times.

States to Get Additional Supply

To ensure smooth distribution, the central government will provide extra cylinders to state governments and their food and civil supplies departments. These cylinders will be strictly reserved for migrant workers.

Oil companies will also support states in managing supply and delivery. The government has assured that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG, despite global challenges.

Government Urges People to Avoid Panic Buying

Authorities have advised people not to panic-buy LPG cylinders. Instead, they should rely only on official updates and use online booking methods to avoid crowds at distribution centers.

The government is also giving priority to essential services like:

Hospitals

Educational institutions

Domestic households

This ensures that critical sectors do not face any disruption.

Extra Measures to Boost Supply

To improve availability, several steps have been taken:

Refinery production has been increased

Booking intervals have been extended (25 days in cities, 45 days in rural areas)

Alternative fuels like kerosene and coal are being promoted

These steps are helping reduce pressure on LPG demand.

Over 51 Lakh Cylinders Already Distributed

According to recent data, around 51 lakh LPG cylinders have already been delivered. Online booking has reached nearly 95%, making the process faster and more transparent.

The government has also improved delivery systems to prevent misuse and ensure that cylinders reach the right people.

In addition, LPG supply has been prioritized for key sectors like:

Restaurants and dhabas

Hotels

Industrial canteens

Food processing units

Community kitchens
