Meta is once again experimenting with social media apps and community features. After launching the “Instants” feature inspired by Snapchat, the company has now introduced a new app called “Forum” in the United States.
The new app is designed for community discussions and group conversations, much like Reddit. Instead of focusing on endless photo
and video scrolling, Forum aims to help users ask questions, share advice, and take part in meaningful discussions.
Login Through Facebook Account
Users can log into Forum using their Facebook account. After signing in, they will see posts from Facebook Groups displayed in a Reddit-style feed.
The app allows users to:
Read discussions on different topics
Discover new communities and groups
Post directly inside communities
Join conversations based on interests
Meta says the app is designed to move users’ attention away from viral content and toward useful discussions and real conversations.
Users Can Post Using Nicknames
One interesting feature of Forum is that people can post using nicknames instead of their real names.
However, user activity will still remain connected to their Facebook account and related groups. Any post shared on Forum will also appear in the connected Facebook Group.
The app also includes a simple profile section where users can see their posts and group activities.
Meta Tried This Idea Earlier Too
This is not the first time Meta has launched a separate app for Groups.
Back in 2014, Facebook introduced a standalone Groups app, but the company later shut it down in 2017. Now, Meta is bringing back a similar concept with a fresh design and AI-powered features.
AI Feature Will Answer Questions
The biggest highlight of Forum is its AI-powered “Ask” feature.
Users can type questions into the app, and AI will generate answers using information from discussions happening across Facebook Groups.
The AI responses will also include links to the original discussions and posts, allowing users to read the full conversation if they want more details.
Meta is also using AI tools to help group admins with moderation and community management tasks.
Meta Expanding Fast in the AI Era
According to reports, Mark Zuckerberg believes AI can help the company build and launch new apps much faster.
Recently, Meta launched:
Threads, seen as a rival to X
“Instants,” inspired by Snapchat and BeReal
And now “Forum,” which targets community-based discussions similar to Reddit
This shows Meta is focusing heavily on AI and standalone social apps.
Currently Available Only in the US
Right now, Forum is available only for iPhone users in the United States.
Meta has not announced when the app will launch globally. However, the company’s recent moves suggest that it may continue expanding its AI-powered apps in the future.
