Easy Steps to Cancel a Wrong Traffic Challan

Traffic police can issue a challan if someone breaks traffic rules. Many people assume they won’t get fined if there are no traffic police nearby.

However, with CCTV cameras and speed radar systems installed on roads, e-challans are now generated automatically.

Sometimes, due to technical errors or incorrect vehicle details, an e-challan may be issued to the wrong person.

If this happens, you should not pay the challan immediately. First, verify whether it actually belongs to you and then take the necessary action.

How to File a Complaint Against a Wrong E-Challan

If you believe an e-challan has been issued by mistake, you can file a complaint online through the Ministry of Road Transport’s e-Challan portal.

Follow these simple steps:

Visit the e-Challan portal.

Enter your vehicle number and challan number.

Check all the challan details carefully.

If the challan is incorrect, click on the complaint option.

Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

Select the reason for your complaint.

Upload supporting documents such as your vehicle photo, FASTag records, parking receipt, or any other proof.

  • Submit the complaint.

After submitting your request, you will receive a Grievance Ticket Number. Keep this number safe, as you may need it to track your complaint.

What to Do If Your Complaint Is Not Resolved

If your issue is not resolved through the e-Challan portal, you can take the matter to the Virtual Court.

Simply search for your case using the challan number and file an objection.

Make sure to attach all the required documents and evidence to support your claim.

Important Things to Remember

Never pay an e-challan if you believe it has been issued wrongly.

Once you pay the challan, it may be treated as an acceptance of the offence.

Always keep documents and proof ready before filing a complaint.

Try to raise your objection within 10 to 15 days of receiving the challan notification for a quicker resolution.
