The Indian market is currently offering a diverse selection of 28 electric cars.
While most of these vehicles fall into the premium category, with a budget exceeding 15 lakhs, there are also more affordable models such as Tata’s Tigor and Tiago.
Notably, MG’s cost-effective Comet EV is also part of this lineup.
Adding to the mix, China’s renowned automotive company BYD is set to introduce their new electric car, Seagull, which was unveiled at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show.
The Seagull has already garnered over 10,000 bookings within a mere 24 hours in the Chinese market.
Given BYD’s presence in India, it is anticipated that the Seagull may soon make its way to the Indian market as well.
In the Chinese market, the Seagull is priced between CNY 78,800 to CNY 95,800, equivalent to approximately Rs 9.4 lakh to Rs 11.43 lakh.
Despite its affordable price, this electric car offers an impressive range of 405 kilometers.
It boasts a 70 kW (94 bhp) motor and a battery pack of up to 38 kWh, allowing for a top speed of up to 130 km/h.
Experts estimate that the Seagull’s price in the Indian market will be around Rs 10 lakh.
Key Features of the Seagull Electric Car
Inside the Seagull Electric Car, you’ll find a 5-inch instrument console, a 12.8-inch infotainment screen,
a flat-bottom steering wheel, a layered dashboard, a powered driver seat, an integrated wireless charging pad, and cup holders.
The car’s interior exudes a higher level of luxury compared to its exterior.
In the Chinese market, the Seagull’s primary competitor is the Wuling Bingo electric hatchback, produced by the SAIC-GM Wuling JV.
Notably, the Bingo offers a larger battery pack, granting it a greater range than the Seagull.
The Seagull itself is a 5-door electric hatchback with a stylish side and rear profile.
It features eye-catching headlights with projectors, connecting LED taillights, a single windshield wiper reminiscent of Nano, pull-up style door handles, and steel wheels with stylish covers.
Seagull Electric Car Battery
The Seagull is built on BYD’s e-platform 3.0 skateboard. Equipped with a 30 kWh battery pack, it offers a range of 305 kilometers.
Alternatively, the 38 kWh battery pack provides a longer range of 405 kilometers.
With a top speed of up to 130 km/h, the Seagull is aimed at customers who are looking to transition from conventional fuel vehicles to electric ones.
If it enters the Indian market, it could potentially pose a challenge to Tata Tiago EV and Tata Nexon EV, offering a superior range and a premium feel at a lower price point.
